PPG Industries (hall 2, D57) is giving Paris visitors a glimpse into the future with a working demonstration of its controllable electrochromic systems for passenger cabin windows. The newly named Alteos interactive window system is the world's first electrochromic window system for commercial aircraft passenger cabins, says Tom Clark, PPG Aerospace general manager for transparencies.

"Visitors can have the passenger experience with Alteos interactive window systems inside a simulated aircraft cabin," he says. "Like passengers, they can interact with the system to select the amount of light transmitted through the windows from a clear state to a dark state, or an intermediate level."

Alteos interactive window systems are designed to replace pull-down, mechanical and other types of shades for enhanced passenger comfort. PPG is supplying Alteos interactive window systems for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the 2010 model Beechcraft King Air 350i.
