Pratt & Whitney has secured new contracts for its EcoPower engine wash services. JetBlue Airways has signed an agreement to begin engine washes on its fleet of International Aero Engines V2500 and General Electric CF34 engines.

The US low-cost carrier will initially start washes at New York Kennedy and Orlando, Florida but has options to expand the service to 13 additional airport locations.

Separately, Dutch charter operator Arkefly has signed a three-year agreement for engine washes for its fleet of PW4060 and CFM International CFM56-7 engines.

The washes will begin immediately at P&W's EcoPower service centre at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport.

Hawaiian Airlines, meanwhile, has renewed its contract to continue using the engine wash service for five years on its fleet of PW4060, CF6-80A2 and Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.

"Hawaiian Airlines has benefited from significant cost savings as a result of the EcoPower engine wash service," says Dennis Manibusan, Hawaiian vice-president maintenance and engineering.

P&W says the engine wash system reduces fuel burn by as much as 1.2%, eliminating 3lb (1.3kg) of CO2 emissions for every lb of fuel saved, while decreasing engine gas temperature and increasing the amount of time an engine can stay on wing.
