Thales is exhibiting its "Innovative-Deck" advanced cockpit technology demonstrator configured as the frozen design layout for the Airbus A350 XWB.
"We can configure this as many different aircraft," says Thales senior marketing manager Michel Soler. "We are already working with other airframers on other designs," he adds.
Soler says that the I-Deck is a "very powerful design tool that has the capability to produce auto-generated code. This is dedicated Thales software that is airworthiness-approved, which means that when a design is finalised 90% of the work is done."
The Thales-supplied A350 flightdeck offers three main changes over the system it supplies to Airbus for the A380, says Soler. "It has fewer, larger display screens which are more integrated. There are 10on the A380, but just six on the A350, which provides a 60kg (132lb) weight-saving."
