When Boeing went looking for a "better mousetrap" to solve a problem, Cleveland, Ohio-based Voss Aerospace, a supplier of clamps and flanges to the airframer, came to the rescue.
After a couple of months in the lab, engineers came up with the solution - the "perfect seal". The difference? The perfect seal won't cut into the sleave to which it is clamped, helping operators reduce maintenance costs, says Nick Antonelli, product development manager for the 280-employee company.
The new clamp, may also find wide approval in the commercial market, given its advanced attributes.
