Donald Barber, senior vice-president of air operations for Federal Express, says there has been a "tough competition" for engine selection between the GE/Pratt & Whitney Engine Alliance GP7200 and Rolls-Royce Trent 900 for its order to equip 10 Airbus A380-800F freighters. "It was not a lopsided competition," he said when announcing the deal at Farnborough. But he added: "We've been with GE and Pratt & Whitney forever. People count."
