The 400kN (90,000lb)-thrust Pratt & Whitney PW4090 engine for the Boeing 777-200 increased-gross-weight (IGW) has been certificated by the USFederal Aviation Administration. The first P&W-powered 777-200IGW will enter service with United Airlines this month. The PW4090 uses the same 2.85m diameter fan as the PW4084, but features improved compressor aerodynamics, and materials and cooling changes in the low- and high-pressure turbine.
