Qantas and KLM have signed a codesharing agreement, with ticket sales to start on 1 November.
The agreement will see Qantas placing its code on KLM's Singapore-Amsterdam service. In return, KLM will codeshare on flights from Singapore to Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
This will be subject to government and regulatory approvals.
Qantas stresses that its codeshare with Emirates on the Dubai-Amsterdam route will remain in place.
At the same time, Qantas frequent flyer members will be able to earn points and status credits on the codeshared flights to Amsterdam, as well as KLM lounge access in Amsterdam. Plans to enable redemption on the codeshare flights are also being looked at.
“This codeshare provides customers with more choice of how they travel between Australia and Europe. It offers our customers another option to get to Amsterdam via our Singapore hub, with more opportunities to earn status credits and Qantas Points,” says Qantas International's chief executive Alison Webster.
In recent months, Qantas signed codesharing deals with Air France, Air New Zealand, and Cathay Pacific.
FlightGlobal schedules data shows that KLM does not fly to Australia, and that Qantas does not operate to Amsterdam.
