Almost 200 professional engineers from Australia's Qantas Airways went on strike again today, but no flights were affected.

"There will not be any disruption to our operations and our customers can travel with confidence," says Qantas Group executive government and corporate affairs David Epstein.

No aircraft will be grounded or delayed; contingency plans are in place to ensure no flights will be affected, he adds.

The strike is the second by Qantas's professional engineers in recent weeks, says the airline.

The professional engineers are asking for a pay rise of 26% over three years, including 17% in the first. Epstein calls the rise "unreasonable and unsustainable".

The strike is expected to last up to five business days, says an airline spokesman.

Qantas will continue to negotiate with the engineers, adds Epstein.

The carrier employs 190 professional engineers in a total engineering workforce of 5,500.
