A new pilot training school is being established in the eastern Australian state of Queensland by Flight Training Group, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Young Brothers Aviation, writes Nicholas Ionides.

To be called Flight Training Queensland, the facility will be located in Maryborough, north of Brisbane, with additional operations out of Hervey Bay.

Young Brothers Aviation already has a pilot training school in the South Australian city of Adelaide, which it purchased from BAE Systems in 2005.

Keith Morgan, the Adelaide school's chief executive, says the new school should open next year and plans call for it to eventually train around 200 pilots at one time. Morgan adds that the Adelaide school is now training around 190 would-be pilots and in October this will peak at 230.

Flight Training Queensland will eventually have around 40 training aircraft, adds Morgan, flying more than 38,000 training hours a year out of facilities at both Maryborough and Hervey Bay.
