A Boeing-led team is to develop the Joint Tactical Radio System, a family of software-programmable radios for the US Army, Air Force and Marine Corps. Development and initial production of 10,000 radios could be worth $2 billion. Production will begin in 2005, with over 100,000 radios required. Boeing, supported by TRW, will design the architecture, develop a new wideband waveform and qualify both Rockwell Collins and a BAE Systems/Harris team to produce the radios.
