Raytheon is to upgrade the US Army's special operations helicopter flight simulators to speed training and prepare for future aircraft design changes.

The company has received a $5 million contract to update the mission processors, host computers and instructor stations in Boeing MH-47E and Sikorsky MH-60K combat mission simulators operated by the US Army's 160th Special Operations Regiment based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Raytheon says the upgrades will ensure that the trainers stay concurrent with future changes to the aircraft, thus "enabling aircrews to train in the simulators before the MH-60K and MH-47E fielded fleet has been totally modified".

The host computer enhancement will support future trainer upgrades, says the company, while the new operator stations will allow the instructors to focus more attention on simulation exercises.
