Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics has won a contract with Boeing (Hall A/1417) to develop dual Head-Up Display (HUD) systems for the US Air Force Lockheed Martin C-130 Avionics Modernisation Program (AMP). Boeing will be prime contractor to upgrade the avionics systems for more than 500 C-130 aircraft.
The initial $11 million contract is for development and delivery of the first 16 HUD shipsets, with first deliveries scheduled for October 2003. Flight tests are scheduled to continue throughout 2006 with full-scale production planned in 2013. The potential contract is worth in excess of $100 million.
"This contract shows the strength of our continued growth in the government and military market segment, which represents 45% of Rockwell Collins' total business," says Bob Chiusano, executive vice-president and chief operation officer of Government Systems, Rockwell Collins.
Strength
"Not only do we have a long history of collaboration with Boeing and the US Air Force, we also were selected because of our strength in display technology, which will add significant value to the C-130 aircraft."
The HUD is part of a larger $400 million avionics package awarded to Rockwell Collins. Also included is Collins' Flight2 6x8in (150x200mm) Multi-Function Displays and AN/ARC-210 radios, SAT-2000, multimode receivers, automatic direction finder and high frequency data link upgrades.
Together these products will increase the aircraft's operational capabilities, providing for future Global Air Traffic Management environments.
Rockwell Collins is also providing head – up displays for the USAF C-130J and US Navy Boeing C-40. These HUDs are night vision goggle compatible and include features for multiple video sensors and enhanced or synthetic vision functions.
Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HUDs are certificated and operating on 23 aircraft types, providing improved all-weather operations.
