Rossiya has introduced its first Airbus aircraft, a leased A319, which is to be used on domestic services as well as flights to European cities. The Russian carrier, which is undergoing modernisation following its merger with Pulkovo Airlines, already has five Boeing 737-500s in its fleet. It is initially operating the ex-Northwest Airlines, CFM International CFM56-powered 128-seat A319 on Moscow-St Petersburg services but plans also to deploy the twinjets on flights to London, Rome, Milan, Paris and other international destinations. The aircraft is replacing older Tupolev aircraft.
