China Southern heads for USA

China Southern Airlines is preparing to launch its first dedicated cargo services using a wet-leased Boeing 747-200 freighter between the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen and the US city of Chicago. The three times-weekly service is due to begin in March. The aircraft is to be leased from Atlas Air.

Vietnamese launch

Vietnam Airlines is to launch flights to Siem Reap in Cambodia following an easing of restrictions by the government on services by international carriers. The new service from Ho Chi Minh City officially began on 7 January although regular flights were not due to have begun until early February.

South Korean route launched

China Southern Airlines has launched scheduled services between the Chinese tourist city of Guilin and the South Korean capital Seoul. The Guangzhou-based airline says the weekly service represents its 38th international route. It now operates two routes to South Korea, the latest served with Airbus Industrie A320s.

China Airlines has added Colombo in Sri Lanka to an existing weekly Europe-bound cargo route from Taipei. The Taiwanese carrier says the Boeing 747-200F service now operates on a Taipei-Colombo-Abu Dhabi-Luxembourg routing, returning from Luxembourg to Taipei via Abu Dhabi and Bangkok.

Mandarin Airlines

China Airlines' subsidiary Mandarin Airlines has launched new services to the popular South East Asian tourist destination of Chiang Mai, Thailand. The twice-weekly service is being run with Boeing 737-800s.
