One of Air Canada’s Boeing 777-300ER has sustained damage during a hard landing and tail-strike at Hong Kong.
The aircraft had been operating the AC15 service from Toronto on 10 December, and arrived shortly before 15:00 on 11 December.
It landed on Hong Kong’s runway 07R but experienced a tail-strike “due to a hard landing”, according to Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
The aircraft suffered structural damage, the board says, requiring “major repair”. Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation Department is investigating the event.
Flight Fleets Analyzer lists the aircraft involved (C-FITW) as an 11-year old airframe leased from AerCap.
Meteorological data for Hong Kong airport at the time indicates the aircraft would have experienced crosswinds from the north-west, but that visibility was good and there were no adverse conditions.
