Sales of V2500 engines this year are set to overtake the record $1.5 billion achieved by International Aero Engines (IAE) in 1995. Including five unannounced orders, the total at the beginning of September stood at $1.2 billion in firm and option business.

New deals have been won at a rate of more than one a month, says IAE company communications director Martin Johnson, with the billion-dollar barrier being broken in August, when United Airline's selected the V2522 for its new fleet of 24 Airbus A319s.
