Flight International online news 13:00GMT:Satellite broadcasting company PanAmSat has selected the Sea Launch system for the launch of two new satellites.

The new Sea Launch missions will require Zenith-3SL vehicles to lift the two 4,700kg (10,400lb) satellites - Galaxy 16 and Galaxy 18 - to geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO).

Galaxy 16 is scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2006, while Galaxy 18 is due to be launch a year later.

Built by Space Systems/Loral, the 1300-series hybrid satellites will carry 24 C-band and 24 Ku-band transponders and each is designed for a 15-year lifespan. 

The two companies have also signed a contract for the first commercial Land Launch.

The agreement provides for a Zenith-3SLB vehicle to lift the PAS-11 satellite to GTO from Baikonur in
Kazakhstan by the mid-2007.
