Entry into service of launch operator Singapore Airlines' (SIA) first Airbus A380-800 has slipped into the fourth quarter of 2006. The original target date was in the second quarter of next year.

Sources familiar with the Star Alliance carrier's plans say October 2006 is the latest target for service entry, although this is still an estimate because the exact timing will depend on when Airbus is able to deliver the first A380.

The delivery schedule depends in part on the flight-test programme, which began late last month. It is unclear how the latest delay will affect the service entry plans of the next two customers, Qantas and Emirates, which should each take delivery of their first aircraft in October 2006.
