Smiths for 7E7 systems

Smiths Aerospace has been selected by Boeing to join the international team developing technologies and design concepts for the 7E7 programme. The UK-based company is supporting six major electronics and actuation systems for the possible next new Boeing aircraft.

Dr John Ferrie, group managing director of Smiths Aerospace, said: "This selection positions Smiths to grow as a major supplier and partner with Boeing for their next family of airplanes.

Enhanced value

"We are keen to deliver enhanced value through the development of systems architectures utilising our key technologies".

The market potential for a new airplane of this size is forecast at up to 3,000 units over the next 20 years. Boeing will make a decision about whether to build the 7E7 by the end of the year, and would then offer the new airplane formally to customers in early 2004.
