Indra is to build a Eurocopter Tiger combat-helicopter training centre for the Spanish army following Spain's decision not to train at the Franco-German Tiger training school in France, instead building its own centre in La Mancha.

It will be equipped with an Indra-built flight simulator with separate motion-based domes for pilot and co-pilot/gunner, says marketing director Augustin Benessar. The Tiger centre will be networked with the Spanish army helicopter training facility Indra is now completing north of Madrid.

The centre is equipped with full-flight and fixed-based simulators for the Boeing CH-47D Chinook, and two similar devices for the Eurocopter AS532 Cougar are being assembled. Indra can sell excess time to other Chinook and Cougar/Super Puma operators, says Benessar.

Indra has developed its own image generator and visual display for the helicopter simulators. Benessar says there was no 210¡ by 105¡ partial-dome display commercially available that was light enough to mount on the full-flight simulators' electric motion base.
