Singapore Airlines is having an ASPIRE flight on 31 January to mark Singapore's entry into the ASPIRE programme, which is an international environmental initiative.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore says it will be signing an agreement on 1 February with the US FAA to join up to ASPIRE, which stands for Asia Pacific Initiative to Reduce Emissions.
It also says the Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-400 flight departing Los Angeles on 31 January will be an ASPIRE flight.
This flight will go via Tokyo and arrive in Singapore on 2 February, it adds.
The ASPIRE flight involves a lot of coordination between air navigation service providers. This is to ensure that the aircraft charts the most efficient course in an effort to minimize fuel consumption and impact to the environment.
The US, New Zealand, Australia and Japan are already ASPIRE members.
