US regional carrier Silver Airways will launch service to Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport in Virginia on 1 August, the airport's management announced this week.
Silver will operate the route between Staunton and Washington Dulles as a United Express carrier, flying 34-seat Saab 340B turboprops.
Silver has committed to operate three daily weekday flights and three departures on the weekend, the airport says. A fourth weekday arrival will be added starting 1 October.
The US Department of Transporation awarded Silver an essential air service contract with a $3.4 million annual subsidy for the route in June.
Silver is taking over a United Express route that used to be assigned to Colgan Air, a subsidiary of Pinnacle Airlines Corp.
Memphis-based Pinnacle filed for bankruptcy on 1 April, and its restructuring plan calls for winding down turboprop flying by Colgan Air.
