BFGoodrich Aerospace has launched a self-contained primary instrument system aimed at the general aviation and entry level business jet markets that will present primary flight information, engine-monitoring data, navigation, weather, traffic and terrain avoidance on liquid-crystal multifunction display screens.

A working prototype of the system, called SmartDeck, made its debut at the show and is set to receive technical standard order certification and enter service in 2002. SmartDeck marks BFGoodrich's entry into the fully integrated flight displays and controls systems market. SmartDeck will display primary flight data in conventional form or "synthetic vision" with highway-in-the-sky overlay depiction. Additional displays include engine instrumentation, aircraft system status and moving map with flight plan overlay.

Meanwhile, BFGoodrich has completed the acquisition of flight display system manufacturer Advanced Creations, expanding the company's position "as a supplier of primary displays for the aviation market".
