Branding Aerospace manufacturer Snecma and hi-tech group Sagem plan to rename their merged company Safran, following a successful public offer by Sagem of Snecma's shares. The boards of the two companies are expected to give their final approval of the merger and name change at a meeting on 11 May. Subject to approval from the boards in May, the new group will be split into four branches – defence/security, aerospace equipment, propulsion and communications. Safran will have a workforce of nearly 55,000. The group chose the name Safran, meaning both "rudder blade" and "saffron" in French, to suggest direction and guidance as well as the idea of international trade.
