It sounds like Enstrom Helicopters has just concluded a deal worth making a noise about.

The US manufacturer will deliver an Enstrom 480 helicopter to Ray Dolby, the inventor who pioneered the world-renowned Dolby sound systems next month.

The founder of Dolby Laboratories introduced noise reduction techniques that reduce the hissing sounds found in the tape recording process. Since then he has gone on to develop advanced motion picture stereo systems and surround sound technology.

Dolby has a love of aviation and has logged 2,000h in fixed wing aircraft. Now he is pursuing a new passion - piloting helicopters.

The aircraft he will be receiving includes a customised avionics package, says Enstrom, including a colour moving map and an electronic flight instrument system (EFIS).
