Singapore Technologies Aerospace (ST Aero) has acquired Dalfort Aviation's maintenance site in Dallas and is planning to expand its Mobile Aero- space Engineering (MAe) subsidiary in a move to increase capacity in the USA.

The Singapore company has agreed with Astraea to purchase the leasehold, assets and inventory of its Dallas aircraft repair and overhaul company for $14.25 million. The former Braniff maintenance base includes a 13,000m2 (140,000ft2) eight-bay narrowbody aircraft hangar and 33,444m2 of backshops, warehouse and offices.

Dalfort is smaller than MAe, but has more component-overhaul capabilities, says ST Aero vice-president Sew Chee Jhuen. The operation specialises in Boeing 737s and 727s, and McDonnell Douglas DC-8s and DC-9s. Among its customers are Triton Aviation Services and TWA.

"We will renegotiate existing contracts with those which want to stay, but we need Dalfort to service MAe customers," says Sew. These include FedEx, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines.
