Star Alliance has expressed concern over planned equity partnership talks between alliance member Air New Zealand and Qantas.
The ANZ Board will meet this week to discuss the purchase by Qantas of a significant minority stake from stakeholders Brierley Investments and Singapore Airlines. Singapore Airlines would also buy ANZ's Ansett Holdings as part of the deal.
However, Brock Friesen, Star Alliance vice-president admits that concerns may be unfounded. The Qantas tie-up "is just an idea. It's a little premature to comment on a situation which isn¹t clear," he says.
