Rolls-Royce has selected Japan's Sumitomo Precision Products to supply the heat management system for the Trent 1000 engine being developed for the Boeing 787 twinjet. The UK manufacturer says Sumitomo will partner with Parker Aerospace of California on the heat management system, which maintains optimum fuel and lubricating oil temperatures in-flight. Sumitomo is an existing supplier on R-R's Trent 500, Trent 700 and Trent 800 engines, as well as on the BR700 and International Aero Engines V2500. Two other Japanese companies, Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, have signed on as risk and revenue sharing partners in the Trent 1000 programme, as have US companies Goodrich and Hamilton Sundstrand.
