Lockheed Martin has delivered the second of two Saab JAS 39 Gripen full mission simulators (FMS) to the Swedish air force. The final two of five lower-fidelity multi-mission trainers (MMT) will be delivered later this year.
The FMS combines an actual JAS39 cockpit with a dome visual display incorporating a head-tracked, high-resolution, "area-of-interest" projector. The MMT is a low-cost, small-footprint device for squadron-level training at forward bases which combines a simulated cockpit with a three-screen visual. The FMSs and MMTs can be networked.
