Westland Helicopters, part of AgustaWestland, has selected the Improved Data Modem version 501 (IDM-501) from Symetrics Industries to provide digital communications in support of its Lynx solution being offered to meet the UK's Battlefield Light Utility Helicopter (BLUH) requirement.

"This is a gratifying programme win for our team," says Mitch Garner, president of Symetrics. "It fully validates our business decision to design and develop a next-generation IDM product with particular focus toward helicopter and UAV applications, where in addition to enhanced functionality, space and weight limitations are critical design considerations."

The IDM-501 is a sophisticated airborne data modem that uses embedded computers to pass data air to air or air to ground using existing onboard tactical voice radios.
