Taikoo Aircraft Engineering (TAECO) is discussing expansion of its Xiamen-based Chinese joint venture with the addition of an aero-engine maintenance capability. The proposal is in the "initial stages of discussion" with potential partners.

The Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering (HAECO)-managed joint venture is conducting a market study, with emphasis on the support of smaller engines in China.

Some equipment manufacturers and third-party overhaul and maintenance companies are looking to expand into China, including General Electric's recently acquired Greenwich Air Services, which had been keen to capitalise on the growing number of International Aero Engines V2500 turbofans on order for Chinese airlines. This, however, would clash with HAECO's new venture with Rolls-Royce, Hong Kong Aero Engine Services, which is to acquire a V2500 module-breakdown capability by February 1998.
