The Lockheed Martin Theatre High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) missile achieved its first successful intercept of a simulated Scud missile target at the White Sands range in Arizona on 10 June.
The success follows six consecutive failures of the ballistic missile defence system. Three more interception tests are planned, two of which must be successful for the programme to progress beyond the demonstration validation phase to engineering manufacturing development.
