The Thales TopSeries i-4000 video-on-demand in-flight entertainment (IFE) system is available to airlines following an agreement between Thales and Boeing.

"This is a very significant achievement for Thales, as it further builds our relationship with Boeing and provides airlines with a proven option when selecting a passenger cabin system," says Jean-Pierre Mortreux, president and chief executive of Thales Avionics, North America.

Under a Technical Services Agreement in 2001, Boeing reviewed all i-4000 technical data, witnessed all testing and reviewed all reports to ensure that each line replacement unit and the complete system complied with Boeing's technical requirements.

Revenue

"Offerability" for other airlines of the i-4000 – which goes into revenue service on four Boeing 767 aircraft very soon – covers both twin and single-aisle aircraft.

The TopSeries system comprises three main subsystems: the i-2000 overhead video; i-3000 in-seat distributed video with up to 66 channels; and the i-4000 audi video on demand with high capacity servers for video, audio, games and web applications.
