The L-159A's primary flight instrument and weapon aiming system is a Flight Visions FV-3000 head-up display (HUD). The 25° field of view HUD computer controls the integrated operation of navigation and fire control functions. Either side of and below the HUD are two AlliedSignal colour liquid crystal display multifunction displays (MFDs). The MFDs communicate over a 1553 databus to display navigation, weapons system status and radar presentation. The FIAR Grifo-L multimode pulse-Doppler radar gives the L-159 a limited all-weather capability. Hands-on throttle and stick controls allow the selection of five different air-to-air search modes and the tracking of up to eight targets. Combined with the HUD, four air combat modes optimised for within-visual-range engagements can be accessed. The nine air-to-ground modes are highlighted by ground mapping and enhanced Doppler beam sharpening mapping modes.
