UK leisure operator Monarch Airlines is expected to announce an order for six Boeing 787s tomorrow morning, although the airline is remaining tight-lipped on the deal.
A high-level Monarch source confirms to Flight's 24h premiums news and data service Air Transport Intelligence that a deal for 787s will be simultaneously announced by Boeing and the airline at 10:00 tomorrow.
Unconfirmed sources suggest that Monarch has placed an order for six 787s for delivery between 2010 and 2013. The sources say that the airline, which operates a common fleet under the Monarch and Monarch Scheduled brands, has announced its plans to acquire the aircraft on its internal website.
Monarch says only: “I know it’s in discussions, but I am not able to confirm anything yet.”
According to Flight's fleet database ACAS, Monarch Airlines operates a single leased Boeing 767-300ER, seven Boeing 757-200s which it owns, two leased Airbus A330-200s, and four A300-600s which it also owns. Additionally it flies eight A321-200s and six A320-200s.
It is not known whether the airline has made an engine selection, but its 757s, A330s and A321s are all Rolls-Royce powered.
