Scotland's Loch Lomond Seaplanes has become the first commercial operator in the UK to gain approval to take off and land from a city centre waterfront.
The company, which operates a five-seat Cessna T206 Stationair for ad hoc charter and sightseeing tours around Scotland, received the go-ahead from the UK Civil Aviation Authority earlier this month to launch a regular on-demand charter service from the River Clyde in Glasgow.
The service is scheduled to begin in March following delivery of its first de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver in January. "We plan to have two Beavers in our fleet within 12 months and a third by the end of 2008," says Loch Lomond Seaplanes founder and managing director David West.
He says the eight-seat aircraft will service Scotland's thriving golfing, fishing and hospitality industries, but will also provide a regular means of transport to many of the remote areas of Scotland.
