The UK’s parliament has given the greenlight for the construction of a third runway at London’s Heathrow Airport.
In a House of Commons vote, 415 MPs voted for the move and 119 against, a majority of 296, parliamentary records show.
On 5 June, the Cabinet had approved the plan to build the third runway.
At the time, UK transport secretary Chris Grayling said that the decision was a “historic moment.”
"This issue has been debated for half a century," said Grayling, adding that a third runway will “bring real benefits across the country".
He contended that 15% of slots will be used to facilitate domestic connections, and that regional connectivity was a key part of the decision-making process.
