The UK Ministry of Defence expects to place a contract later this year with British Aerospace and Rolls-Royce to supply a fully costed proposal for re-engineing the BAe Sea Harrier FA2 with the R-R Pegasus 11-61 turbofan.
The proposed strategy is for BAe to be lead contractor with R-R as major partner. If they can show "improved installed performance and supportability cost benefits", the MoD will clear a second phase of the development programme.
