Meggitt Aerospace is consolidating its US-based general aviation avionics business as the UK firm moves to develop the retrofit market for its Magic cockpit display system.

Responsibility for the Magic flat-panel displays will be moved to the company's Mineral Wells, Texas, facility, where S-Tec autopilots are produced.

Because of its background in the aftermarket autopilot business, the S-Tec plant has the experience required to certificate retrofit applications of the Magic system, the company says.

The display system is already standard equipment on the New Piper Meridian, and Meggitt is developing a Magic-brand autopilot for the single-turboprop business aircraft.

Although responsibility for the Magic displays will be moved from Meggitt Avionics' Manchester, New Hampshire, plant, production of the solid-state air-data attitude and heading reference sensor that drives the system will remain in the UK.

The New Hampshire facility will continue to be responsible for engine components and sensors, reporting to Meggit's Vibro-Meter subsidiary in Switzerland.
