Flight simulators with Rediffusion-supplied visual systems are being offered a new lease of life by Dallas, Texas-based RediFun Simulation.

Under a launch contract from Pan Am International Flight Academy (PAIFA), the company is developing a PC-based image generator able to run databases originally produced for Rediffusion's SPX-series visual systems.

RediFun president Rick Hughes says Level C certification of the Raster image generator is planned for July on PAIFA's Learjet 35 simulator. Negotiations are under way to fund a Level D development.

PAIFA has ordered five systems, two to replace Rediffusion SP2s on the Learjet 35 and a Boeing 737-200 simulator and three to equip new Level C business jet simulators being built by the Academy's SimCom subsidiary.

RediFun has access to the former Rediffusion visual database library through an agreement with L-3 Communications, according to Hughes. Existing SPX databases are being translated to run on the Raster system.

Hughes says RediFun specialises in upgrading and refurbishing the Evans & Sutherland-manufactured SP-series visual systems.
