The USA and Colombia have hammered out a new aviation bilateral deal which gives US and Colombian carriers new rights, and cancels threatened sanctions. The accord remains in effect for two years. American Airlines will be allowed to operate three weekly New York-Bogota round-trip frequencies. It may also shift up to four of the weekly frequencies it now operates between Miami and Colombia to the New York gateway. Colombia is allowed to add a single additional round-trip frequency to its current New York service after it improves its safety record. It holds a conditional US Federal Aviation Administration (Category 2) rating, which requires greater safety oversight.
