WestJet Airlines, the Calgary-based airline which launched discount services in February, has had to suspend operations because of alleged violations of federal safety regulations. The Canadian Transport Department issued a notice of suspension after finding serious deficiencies in the airline's maintenance procedures and record keeping. WestJet has 15 days to address the problem or its operating certificate will be suspended.
