International Aero Engines (IAE) and MTU Maintenance Zhunhai, a 50:50 joint venture between MTU Aero Engines of Germany and China Southern Airlines, have joined forces to repair, modify and test IAE V2500, engines and modules in China. The deal is intended to meet all V2500 engine maintenance, repair and overhaul needs in China.
Bombardier has chosen CaseBank Technologies' SpotLight maintenance diagnostic software for use by CRJ and Dash 8 Q400 operators. The subscription service allows computer access to a database of diagnostic experience and guides the user to descriptions of previously solved problem with the most similar symptoms.
Goodrich is rolling out wireless and web-based technology to streamline checks at its Everett, Washington, maintenance centre. Technicians use hand-held devices to input information as they inspect each aircraft. This drives a critical-path scheduling tool which tracks tasks and estimates delivery times. The technology has reduced maintenance times by almost 25%.
Sinex Aviation Technologies is providing consulting and training services to Alaska Airlines as it moves its Boeing MD-80 maintenance programme to the latest MSG-3 recommendations. Sinex is helping create a bridge plan and will provide transition training.
Sabena Technics has signed a contract with European Air Transport, DHL's Brussels-based subsidiary, to perform A checks on its fleet of Boeing 757-200 freighters. Work will be carried out at Sabena Technics' neighbouring facilities at Brussels National Airport. The company will also provide on-call technical assistance.
Asiana Airlines has awarded Pratt & Whitney a long-term fleet management programme contract, worth over $440 million, to maintain and overhaul PW4000 engines powering the South Korean airline's Airbus A330s and Boeing 777s. The airline has three 777-200ERs in service and seven more on order. Six A330s are on order.
