China's Xian Aircraft (XAC) has launched an avionics upgrade programme for its MA60 turboprop aircraft and selected the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 integrated system.
Deliveries of initial shipsets are due to begin this year and aircraft certification is expected in 2004. The MA60 is already fitted with earlier- generation Rockwell Collins avionics and navigation equipment.
XAC's 56- to 60-seat Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127J-powered MA60 is an updated version of the Y-7, which is a development of the Antonov An-24, and first flew in 2000. XAC says six aircraft are flying with airline customers in China, as well as an unspecified number with the Chinese military. Sichuan Airlines has ordered five MA60s and operates one, while Changan Airlines operates two and Wuhan Airlines operates three. Shen adds that China Northern Airlines plans to acquire five of the type.
XAC meanwhile continues design work for a smaller 40-seat MA60 derivative. It is also jostling with other China Aviation Industries I companies for workshare on the planned ARJ21 regional jet family.
