Airbus might not be in a position to reach a decision on proceeding with a re-engined A330 by the time of the Farnborough air show.
Chief operating officer for customers John Leahy, speaking during a briefing in Toulouse, said the airframer was continuing to “go back and forth” on the strategy.
He says Airbus is still looking at crucial aspects of the proposed aircraft – unofficially named the A330neo – including the investment required.
Leahy also stresses that the airframer does not want to threaten its A350 programme.
“I don’t mind cannibalising our competitors’ programmes,” he says. “But we have to be careful about cannibalising our own.”
While the Farnborough air show is due to take place in July, Leahy suggests that an A330neo decision might not be made in time for the event.
