AIRBUS A340 Quadjets are not in fashion everywhere, but Lufthansa Group has identified its Swiss International Air Lines' Airbus A340-300s as its most efficient aircraft, with fuel consumption of 3.24 litres per 100 passenger-kilometres. That is a shade better than 3.25 litres for the group's A330-200s. The Lufthansa A340 fleet ranges up to 3.65 litres for the -600, with clear blue sky between there and the 4.03 litres burned by its Boeing 747-400s.

SERGE DASSAULT The Groupe Dassault chairman has been barred from holding local elected office for a year after a civil court found he made cash gifts to voters in the Paris suburb of Corbeil-Essonnes before his re-election there as mayor last year. Dassault, who denies allegations that he bought votes, is also a senator with President Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP party, owner of the daily newspaper Le Figaro and one of the richest men in France.
