Good week

AIRASIA X Lotus Racing sported freshly placed logos from its newest sponsor at the British Grand Prix. The low-cost carrier may not yet be backing a front-runner, but its cars finished a creditable sixteenth and seventeenth, just behind the Ferraris and, once again, well ahead of arch-rival Virgin Racing. Lotus and AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes has a bet with Virgin's Sir Richard Branson: whoever is trailing at season-end will serve as a flight attendant on the other's airline.

Bad week

AIR FRANCE-KLM The carrier is to pay $87 million to settle US class action lawsuits centred on cartel allegations against its 2000-06 cargo operations at its main flag carriers and subsidiary Martinair. Civil actions were initially filed in 2006 after US and European authorities opened investigations. Air France-KLM and Martinair were fined $392 million by the US justice department in 2008. The European Commission investigation is still open.
