BYE ENERGY The Colorado-based developer of electric and electric-hybrid propulsion systems for light aircraft got a "substantial" capital injection from private equity investor Beyond The Edge. whose founder Richard Schaden - an aeronautical engineer and pilot - describes Bye's project to fly an electric-powered Cessna 172 Skyhawk proof of concept in spring 2011 as "achieving extraordinary results in bringing clean energy to general aviation".

THE EURO Last week's Irish debt crisis and bailout, following as it did the Greek debt crisis and bailout and possibly preceding debt crises and bailouts in Portugal and Spain, does not augur well for the European single currency. The permutations of a euro collapse-or-survival drama are too many to juggle, but it is a fair bet that while European manufacturers faced an orderly transition when the euro was created, they will face financial chaos if it dies, or threatens to.
