Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper and Costa Rican president Laura Chinchilla have forged a new air services agreement between their two countries, subject to ratification.

Commenting on the new pact the government of Canada stated the agreement "provides airlines and passengers with significantly more flexibility in terms of routes, frequency of service and pricing".

Canadian low cost carrier WestJet welcomed the new agreement, congratulating both governments and remarking that, "this agreement will result in new opportunities for visitors from both Canada and Costa Rica to travel between the two countries".
