The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aims to levy a $230,000 fine against Continental Airlines for operating a single Boeing 767 that was not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
Specifically FAA alleges Continental operated the aircraft on 22 revenue flights after replacing the nose landing gear wheel and tire assembly, but failed to install the required axle washer despite warnings in the maintenance manual that not installing the washer could lead to failure of the wheel bearing.
FAA explains agency inspectors discovered the violation during a records check and notes three identical earlier violations.
Continental has 30 days to respond to the proposed penalty.
